Rashi Bijlani

Geeta Chandran, Founder-President, Natya Vriksha presented the Bharatanatyam Arangetram  of her disciple Rashi Bijlani on 4 July 2009, at the Chinmaya Hamco Auditorium

Rashi Bijlani was born to dance! Her passion is dance, choreography and movement. Her pursuit of Bharatanatyam took a serious turn when she came under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Geeta Chandran, under whose hawk eye, Rashi has blossomed as a trained Bharatanatyam artist.

But her passion for dance goes beyond the classical. Rashi trained in folk dance under Rekha Choudhary. She has worked in choreography under various dancers/choreographers; among them, Gilles Chuyen and Soraya Franco. She has been taking classes at Sadhya and Danceworx.

Through school and college Rashi has performed in solo and group at– both dance and theatre. She has won a number of prizes at intra and inter school and college competitions, including first prize for Bharatanatyam at BITS Pilani and Jesus and Mary College in 2007. Her wide oeuvre in dance jazz, contemporary, folk, and classical made her an inevitable choice to be elected Dance Secretary at LSR. Her ability to catalyse the college dance society led to it winning many laurels at competitive events all over the country. (In fact, in her college, her frenetic dance activities earned her the label: “breathless girl”!)

Rashi has also been an integral part of Geeta Chandran’s Natya Vriksha Dance Company and has travelled all over the country on performance tours.

Equally interested in sports, while in school, Rashi also won the Table Tennis Zonal Champion (Junior Category).

In addition to all these physical activities, Rashi has been involved with social work, including volunteering at Crayons (the kindergarten run efficiently by her mother) and at Muskaan (an NGO which caters to children suffering mental handicap). She currently is interning as a Trainee Therapist with The Hope Foundation, a rehabilitation centre that works towards rehabilitating drug addicts and psychotics.

Rashi is also interested in spirituality and healing, especially through Reiki.
